It was not easy.
Let me tell you, it WAS NOT EASY.
Let me rephrase, it was hard, tiring, stressful, excruciating, and it reached the point where i thought i may not make it.
I let my nerve got the best of me, I let some people down, I made problems.
But, thank God that it turned out well
And yes, Jesus made my biggest dream (so far) come true.
But does it end there? Of course not.
This is just the beginning, because now a new chapter lies up ahead, and I'm eager to find out what kinds of stories lies inside.

A Short Message
Sorry for not being able to write for the last few months, and now I'm here, just as busy. I'll be leaving a few words here, before I disappear again :P
Anyway, the next few weeks will be one of the most tiresome, stressful, and agonizing time of my life.
No one said that it will be easy, and I am fully aware of that.
But I'm setting my goal beyond the beyond. I'm ready to take the chances, make changes, and do my best.
Wish me luck.

It's been a while
it's been a while since I last posted on this blog.
it's been a while since I last spoke on behalf of my school.
it's been a while since I last donned my blue jacket.
it's been a while since the last time I was sincerely happy.

Different Life
Everything is different now.
My education life is now different.
Never before I'm so focused on school.
Never before I feel so determined to catch-up on lessons.
Never before I asked the teacher of what I don't understand.
My debating life is now different.
Never before I feel this burden-less.
Never before I'm so psyched about coaching.
Never before I'm so proud of my juniors.
My personal life is now different.
Never before I feel so mature.
Never before I feel so insecure about myself.
Never before I have clear reason for my smile.
Like I said, it's different.

Brain, Hand, & Heart.
Heart is what connects your Brain and your Hand. When you brain is trying to make excuses, your heart tells you to accept. When your hand is trying to perpetrate, your heart prevent it. When your brain causes your hand to do what is wrong, your heart commands your brain to command your hand to do anything in your power to make things right again.
But what controls the heart?
That, to me can only be explained by what you believe.
For me, the answer is faith.

4 Sides of Me
Today I wanna talk about myself...
Well maybe the word "myselves" is more suitable.
Why? Because there's a lot of me, and sometime you barely notice that we're actually a single person.
Let me introdice you to my friends.
1. The Cheerful
He is someone who is very happy and enthusiastic. He can laugh at almost anything, and sometimes make good jokes about something unimportant (ex. Himself). He's so active that sometime ppl called him as "hyperactive" or "crazy". This guy talks a lot, usually in Bahasa Indonesia. Not only this guy talks a LOT, he also talks VERY fast and sometimes very loud. He's honest and sometimes ignorant. He would not be ashamed to admit his own weakness (the opposite of The Desperate who do the exact contrary). If you're lucky to get a chance to chat with him thru BBM, he's the one who always use emoticons in the end of almost every sentences.
2. The Desperate
He is timid, pathetic, and blue person. He always see himself based on his weakness.a very unstable guy who think that he's worthless. One simple word/sentence/image can leave him severely depressed. He oftenly spends his time thinking and fantasizing about what if the past was not as how it is now.his biggest dream is to rewind the flow of time, so he could fix the countless stupid mistakes that he made. He rarely speak, but his thoughts speaks more than any word could express. His endless cries can also be silently heard at night. He contemplate himself mostly in English. His BBMs are short, unexpressive, and sometimes a cliffhanger.
3. The Furious
The sarcastic bitch. He never even have a glance of thought of what would it feels like to be the one listening his harsh words. He have 2 favorite modus operandi to release his anger. One, by speaking in a very sarcastic way. Two, by shouting VERY loud to his source of conflict. He always thinks that he's the right one. Always trying to find your mistakes, even sometimes using mistakes that have no correlation at all to the conflict. He wouldn't even give a damn to BBM you. He prefer to use the social networking sites to publish his sarcasm. He thinks in indonesian, speaks in Indonesian, but writes in English.
4. The Determined
He's the serious one. He studies, he debates, he reads. He is the one that takes over most of Aldi's professional moments (as a student, and as a debater). He's the one who have many goals set in front of him. He spend his time thinking why everything is the way it is until now. He's the one that formulate and confirms the existance of the four sides of aldi. He's the one who is concerned about why japanese don't speak L while balinese don't speak F or V. These thoughts are the things that drives Aldi into his usual daydreams. He is so obsessed with games. You can see him trying to focus on beating a game. He's also has a good imagination. That's why you can see him draw things on his books, without letting anyone know what he's drawing.
The four Aldis existed. They are inseparable. They're one. They are the ones who make Aldi who he was today. Their growth per se is to be delightfully anticipated, but their growth as a single human is something that hold even a more beautiful mystery.
Let it unfold naturally.
Sincerely,
The Determined.

Unfair?
Sometimes I do think that the world is a bit unfair... why? bcs see myself with a lot of weakness, and that makes me think: why do everyone have what have?
About my weaknesses :
1. I hate sports (I can't even do push-ups)
2. I am not the type of ppl who easily makes new friends.
3. I am VERY lazy.
4. I'm a perfectionist (in a bad way)
5. I can't speak Balinese (it hampers my social life)
But then I realised, the more I think about my weakness, the more I forget about my strength, which actually existed, and is there to help me in my own way.
About my strengths :
1. Despite my nervousness, it never stopped me from speaking in public.
2. I am a very happy guy, and sometimes I can make other ppl happy as well.
3. I am a perfectionist (In a good way)
4. i can speak english (it is a good capital for my future)
5. i have my own Faith. for me it is an unreplaceable strength that keeps moving me forward.
So is the world unfair? yes it is. in every single way imagineable. but whoever can play with the unfairness and make it through, he will be MORE than a conqueror.

Un-Affirmative Action...
Do you know about affirmative action?
It is supposed to mean, "policies that take factors including "race, color, religion, gender , or origin into consideration in order to benefit an underrepresented group".
So for example, to proliferate the education of African-American people to develop their general education level, Harvard University provide a MINIMUM quota for this community in their classes.
But what happened in my school is the exact opposite.
Under the reason "to proliferate general level of education,", they instead apply a MAXIMUM quota for student outside of Denpasar.
For me that is so unfair.
I completely understand their goal. This system is proposed by Diknas, because they want to make sure that not all smart student coagulate in Denpasar. By applying this system, smart student can actually opt back to local High School, therefore reducing brain drain from a certain regency.
But analyzing deeper, we see that it harms the right of the particular student to choose where they would like to study.
Take my junior in SMP as an example.
She's very smart, but she's not accepeted at my school. Why?
Because she's from Kuta. My school only accept 11 students outside Denpasar, and she's #12, with only a 0.09 margin from the #11 student.
But most importantly, without this system is applied, my junior will be ranked #66 overall, a VERY high standing, remembering that there are more than 500 people enrolling, and about 250 got accepted.
She's supposed to be happy now, but that smile was taken away from her because of other people.
Is this what do you call Affirmative Action?
For me, Affirmative Action should give benefit to those who are capable, but cast aside due to discrimination in the past.
This is basically giving benefit to those who may not be as capable, but in the mainstream community (Denpasar).
It is clearly against the law of equality (if there's any).

Disappointment and Hope
National Schools Debating Championship 2011.
If any of you are debaters, you should've known this term.
Yes, it is one of the most prestigious national English debating competition.
If you don't know what it is, let's just say it's the English-counterpart of OSN.
Disdikpora held this event annually to select the national champion among the 33 provinces in the archipelago, and to compose a brand-new team from the whole participant. It's Team Indonesia, that will be sent to compete in the world's most prestigious high school debating competition, the World Schools Debating Championship.
As you may know, I am one of the participant of NSDC 2011. Together with Ian and Bika, we are Team Bali.
We are confident enough in this competition.
Well, we don't really say that we're going to win the whole thing, but we're confident enough that we're going to be able to go far in this comp.
Why? because we had just won ALSA National English Competition 2011, another prestigious national debate tournament.
But with that confidence, comes a burden.
I'm afraid to lose. I'm burdened with the title of Champion and Best Speaker.
Anyway, when we compete at the Nationals, it started out a bit rough.
We kept on under-performing , we don't think our debate is good enough to achieve good scores.
But luckily, our team manage to win 5 out of 5 rounds in the preliminary, and manage to break through the preliminary round, and gained the First Position among the 16 team that will proceed to the Elimination round.
We swept cleanly until the final round.
Yes, the final round.
We met Aceh at the final.
And they're good.
Sadly enough, we lost at the final. There were 9 judges at the final. 4 voted for us, while 5 voted for them.
It's a shame. Big time. I'm ashamed of myself.
Why? Because we met Aceh already. Twice. Firstly at the Mock Round, and secondly at the 3rd Preliminary Round. We won both of them.
It gives us more burden and expectation from our coach and teacher that we should've won the finals as well.
But most importantly, I'm ashamed that I'm unable to perform maximally at the final.
I knew I could do better. I messed up everything in the final.
But a new hope sparked. All three of team Bali managed to secure positions at the Top 5 Speakers of NSDC, with Ian as the First, Bika as the Third, and me as the Fifth Best Speakers.
Remember when I told you about composing Team Indonesia? Well, the team will be selected among the 24 Best Speakers, not team.
Seeing how successful we are on -speaker-wise, it gives me a new hope. That we have a BIG chance of going to South Africa.
Disappointed? I am. Terribly.
I cried many times. When seeing IndoDebate, when chatting with my friends, when hearing other people's opinion about the final round. It broke me down.
But it won't change anything.
Therefore I'm going to keep on moving forward. I can't guarantee that I won't break down again, but I can guarantee that I won't back down.
We have gone too far, now the only thing we can do is to set our goal even further.
Therefore, I proudly present:
BALI
The Runner-Up and Best Speaker of NSDC 2011
Thank you for reading.

Training Camp
as some of may have known, I am now in the process of debate training. ppl usually refer that as "training camp"... well, this is my third training camp overall.
My first camp was held at my villa, with Ian, Agatha, Kevin, Prisi, Bika, and Takumi. Our coach was Freida Siregar at that time at that time we learned a lot about how to make arguments and rebuttals. Freida successfully taught the basic of debate for us. at that time I realized, that what I have debated since months was a total error.
Second camp is one year after the first. Agatha, Kevin, and Prissi stepped down as they were a third graders already, and was replaced by my new juniors, Carrisa, Mita, Muli, and Kreshna. we trusted this year's camp on the hand of Ahmad Naufal Da'I. he is a good coach indeed. the camp is focused on teaching us matters and principles, that is indeed useful for the future.
A few month after that, we got a surprising call from Freida, saying that she's willing to come back to bali for another camp. so for the third camp, takumi kreshna and muli stepped down, as they will not join anymore competition for the rest of the year, but we got another addition, which is Lissa to our group. this camp is focused on the individual's strength and weakness. freida carefully assess our ability, and analyse the area that we can improve.
all in all, these 3 camps is everything could hope for as a debater. would like to thank Freida and Naufal for making me who I am today.
But know this is not over. there's still one more camp that I'm dying to that is the Wsdc training camp.
Wishe me luck

Punctuality
Happy Passover Day, everyone!
Today is Good Friday, so my church is conducting a special service to commemorate it.
And as usual, the youth community of my satellite church decide to go the the central church together.
And as usual, I was the first of them to arrive.
The service started at 10, and I'm there already at 8.30.
What pisses me off is that my friends were extremely late (a few minutes AFTER the service started)
So we cannot sit at our "usual place".
My mother taught me since I was little to NEVER be late for anything.
Be it school, be it church, be it going to birthday parties.
And I am thankful for that, because it made me discipline in many other areas as well.
But don't you think, the world demands punctuality?

That made me think.
Why does punctual people always get into these troubles?
Why Indonesian people appreciate late people so much?
Another example:
Usually at big services like that, youth and teenagers are politely asked to sit on the carpets provided in the front, to give place for "elders".
Well, I don't mind doing that.
But that makes me think:
Are we giving our places to "elders", or "people who comes late because they know that youths will be forced to give up their seats for them" ?
Sometimes, the capacity of the church is just not enough.
But sometimes, there are people who misuse that to be late.
It makes me wonder?
What's the right thing to do?
Why people looks down on their most precious resource: Time?

Worship
A song does not make you worship worthy.
But your worship is what makes your songs worthy.
Praise the Lord.
Ps: I'm a Christian.

"Aku Kan Emang Kayak Gini" - I Don't Care
Jujur, gw paling ga suka sama orang-orang yang defend themselves dengan bilang, "Jangan salahin aku dong, aku kan emang gini orangnya,"
Because basically it shows how egoist you are. You are trying to defend yourself by saying that you are a badass and everyone needs to accept that.
All human have their limitation, and a good person will try to control that, rather than blaming it on people who "dont accept you the way you are"
I'm a friend who accept people the way they are. I agree to disagree.
But don't you ever use that as a reason to defend yourself in ANY circumstances.

Is It Right?
I'm a Deontologist.
What is that? Some of you may not even know.
Deontologist is someone who believes in the value of right and wrong.
You judged an action by its morality first, not by its result.
No matter how bad things may turn, I'll always stick to the rules.
On the contrary, no matter how good thing may turn out, I'll never play against the rule.
It seems odd to post things like this, but I believe that the world needs to know.
That I'm not the type to make "white lies" or "small sins".
For me, Lies are Lies, Sins are Sins. Nothing more, nothing less.
Am I wrong? Or am I right?
Well, because I'm a deontologist, I believe that I'm right, so could care less about the result.
Because I also believe, that doing things the right way make everything turns right as well.
What is that? Some of you may not even know.

My Girlfriend
Have you ever met someone who is not your family that you love?
Have you ever met someone who will always make you smile?
Have you ever met someone that you will always welcome to your bedroom?
Have you ever met someone that you will always compliment, even though every other people said that he/she is ugly?
Have you ever met someone that you can never imagine how the world will be if he/she is replaced with someone else?
I met that girl. And I love that girl very much.
Her name...
...
...
...
Well, it's a secret.
I don' think that girl even know how I feel about her.
Okay, I can't stand it anymore.
I'm gonna tell you, but don't tell anyone.
Her name is Fluffy
Yes, she's my dog. I love her so much.
She wakes me up every morning, gets all jumpy around me to welcome me home everyday.
She would cry if she saw me packing bags and leaving early in the morning to catch my flight.
My best friend.

Different Perspective
Today is my mid-term report.
Personally, I'm satisfied with my scores.
But unfortunately my juniors aren't feeling the same way.
Well, most of them failed, or barely passed the Mathematics score standards.
And one of the class-teacher actually accused them for being "ignorant and arrogant", or "lacking enthusiasm and initiative" to pursue better mark.
Even I feel offended with such statements. You know what? Until seconds before my juniors went to Java for study tour, they are still catching up with tests. For God sake, they called the teacher after school just so they can catch up tests.
And more importantly, the Math teacher also stated that he haven't been making such statement, because for him, my junior have done a decent job.
So what cause their class-teacher to see them that way? That is what I call "perspective".
We can't change it. We'll just have to deal with it.

My Teacher's Wedding Day.
Today I got home early. Not because I skipped class (well I did skipped class for training my juniors), but because my school teachers are all invited to one of my teacher's wedding day.
The teacher-in-question is Ms.Ina. She is one of the advisors of my Club (Foursma English Club). Well, let's just say she's one of the very few teachers who actually give a damn for the club. and when I say "give a damn", it literally means she knows a lot. She always ask how did our club meeting went. She ask us about our preparation for competitions. She even come to our practices if she had free period.
There isn't much teacher who still think about the process. Most of the teacher at my school actually only care about the final result (read: trophy). They'd call us "disappointing" if we lose, or they'll call us "arrogant" if we win. But Ms.Ina is different. She know how hard we worked, and she always gave us constructive advices.
Back to topic, so finally Ms.Ina find the man of her life. That makes me wonder: When will I got married? Where will we got married? Where will I spend my honeymoon?
I hope I can just throw a small ceremony. Only friends and families, then spend the honeymoon abroad. Europe, preferably. Well, it's just a dream anyway. The world needs dreamer to keep it alive, oui?
Cheers.
New Blog!
It's my new blog!
Can't believe I'm actually making a new blog!
I hope I can make this blog a long-running one.
And I'm planing to make this blog dedicated solely for posting stories. My stories.
So I can guarantee you that there will be no school assignments posted here.
Well, that's it for now.
Cheers,
